February is dedicated to the celebration and education of the impact and victories of the African-American community. It is easy to allow this time of reflection to cause division as we think back on how divided we used to be and how hateful we were to someone just because they were a different color. However, this should be a time to recognize and celebrate the individuals who made such large sacrifices to create unity in our country and remember that we still need to continue to fight for that today. It is a time to remember that we are ONE nation, under GOD, INDIVISIBLE, with liberty and justice for ALL.
We have had many amazing individuals in the African-American community who were either from the Columbus, GA area or had a large impact on this area. I…
Adjustable Rate Mortgages: The Pros and Cons to these Tempting Loans
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 at 3:23pm. 200 Views, 1 Comments.
An adjustable rate mortgage by definition is a mortgage where the interest rate is periodically adjusted. These mortgages are very tempting when your loan officer tells you that you can receive a lower interest rate than a fixed rate mortgage with the possibility of the rate going even lower when adjusted. The trick to an ARM(adjustable rate mortgage) is to have all the information and solicit outside help if the terms are unfamiliar to you. If you plan to own your home for 5 years or less, this could be the best loan for you: if you choose the right one. The pros and cons to an adjustable rate mortgage…

Is Now the Time to Buy Your First Home?
As a result of our struggling worldwide economy, we have all heard plenty of horror stories about people losing their homes and jobs. Due to the near collapse of many of the largest banks in the world, we have also heard that the credit squeeze has made it nearly impossible to open a new line of credit or to take out a loan. As a result, the housing market has nearly screeched to a halt.
Using the Economy to Your Benefit
While there are certainly some markets that are having difficulty keeping afloat during these difficult times, there are other areas throughout the country that still continue to grow despite the troubled economy. In addition, if your credit is solid, there has never been a better time than now to…

If you read my blog very much you know that one our favorite places is Callaway Gardens about 30 miles north of Columbus. We have a year round pass and go up for most of their events. We usually go up on the 4th of July for the beach party at Callaway which includes dancing on the beach to the Swinging Medallions and Fireworks.
Also on the beach is the High Flying Circus under the tent at the pavillion. This year they added a set up on the beach where they give lessons. Donna and I decided to try the trapeze. I am not really big on heights so you can imagine that this was hard for me but it was worth the effort. It is not very often that you get a chance to swing on a real flying trapeze and the showmen at the High Flying Circus set it up so…

If we listen to the news we would think that there is no financing available and that a buyer must have 25% down to finance a home. This is just not true! There are still several programs that will help you buy a home with 0% to 3% down. Especially if you are a first time home buyer or have limited income or if you are in a service industry like Military, School Teacher, or Nurse. Here are some examples of possible loans that may allow you a minimum down payment.
1) VA loan for military families - 100% financing with just reasonable credit requirements
2) FHA loan - 97% financing with reasonable credit
3) Georgia Dream - help with down payment if you fall into a lower income bracket, are a school teacher, police, or nurse. Ask us about this…
