Phenix City AL Real Estate and Area Info

Located on the Chattahoochee River on the Georgia border, Phenix City has a rich history and many stories to tell. Residents in the community of about 40,000 tell stories told to them by ancestors of soldiers from nearby Fort Benning coming to their neck of the woods to unwind from a long day’s work.   (Most of these stories are true and there have been several books and at least one movie about the "Phenix City Story")   At one time Gen. Patton even parked his tanks on the Columbus side of the bridge between Columbus and Phenix City and threatened to level the town if his soldiers were not released.   All this happened 50 + years ago.  Since that time Phenix City has cleaned up its act and become a great place to live and work.

Many decades ago, as the area began to develop and regional population grew, there were a number of individual communities in the vicinity. Browneville, Girard, Knights Station, Lively and the largest of them, Phenix City decided to join together and agreed to adopt the name of Phenix City. Legend has it, a clerk entering the city name at the time of the consolidation accidentally left out the “o” in the word “Phoenix” and the misspelled name stuck.

There are five municipal parks located in and around Phenix City, three that offer fishing, two with pools, a horse arena, playgrounds and even an 18-hole golf.

The area boasts a new hospital and lots of new amenities adding to the quality of life in the area.
